The Big Green Egg is the premier ceramic grill and smoker on the market and there are several key ways to utilize the Big Green Egg to enjoy the ultimate cooking experience.
But there are a few things you need to do to prepare your new Egg for a lifelong of grilling success.
First, it is recommended to fill your Egg with Big Green Egg lump charcoal, that is made from hardwoods. Never use lighter fluid in your Egg, either. Lighter fluid will taint the flavor of the food.
It is also recommended that you use an electric starter, like our favorite, the Looflighter.
When you begin to cook for the first few times on your Egg, don’t let the temperature go over 350 degrees the first few times. The heat could damage the Egg’s gasket to allow for a permanent seal.
Also, keep in mind that you need to learn a technique called “burping.” Burping your Egg, allows for the heat to escape without flare ups or burning your hands. All you need to do is slowly open your Egg, while cooking, an inch or two to release hot air and allowing the outside air to fill the dome.
Did you know that you can reuse the charcoal in your Egg? You can. The next time you cook, just spread the ashes out over the grate and fill the fire box back up with new charcoal.
